Conservation Initiative
Coral restoration and working to protect our coral reefs. Coral reefs are essential to the health of our oceans and the creatures that live in it. Many areas face threats such as rising water temps, destructive fishing methods, pollution, boat anchors and heavy tourism traffic.
In a lab, scientists can grow coral 25 to 50 times faster than it grows in the wild by using a technique called microfragmentation. This process triggers the coral's natural healing response, turning tiny pieces into mature colonies in months instead of decades. Coral reefs can be restored over time through this process as well as small steps we can take like making sure not to touch coral with our fins, hands and anchors and choosing sunscreens that don't have harmful chemicals like Oxybenzone, Octinoxate, Octocrylene, Homosalate and Parabens.
Coral reefs are essential for our planet to survive. Together we can actively make steps to help regrow, protect and take care of this fragile and vital eco system.
